MARMOT BASIN, THE OFTEN FORGOTTEN

Conditions de ski - MAMOT BASIN, THE OFTEN FORGOTTEN

With Canada’s highest ski resort base elevation at 1.7 km above sea level and it’s almost 1000 m (3000 feet) vertical, Marmot Basin is one of a kind.  Why so few skiers back East know about it, is a mystery?

A variety of groomed runs, trees, bumps, alpine bowls and chutes await all skiers and riders of all abilities. The mountain’s 5.6 km run is a must for all.  A top to bottom run here may give your legs a hard time, but the endorphin reward is simply amazing!  Beyond all, Marmot Basin offers the expert or advanced skier countless days of fun in 40% of the resort’s amazing terrain.

Jasper may be a little North, but it is well worth the trip. The extremely long season from November to May and its cold dry Alberta Powder, make the difference here.

As a ski and snow conditions reporter, I can attest to this superior quality. My two days spent at Marmot Basin on December 27th and 28th 2015, both received an A rating on snow conditions (90+ %).

Everything is dry and fluffy. The three day old groomed runs were crisp and soft with a fresh centimeter of crystal dry snow up top.

As for the skiing experience, it is matched by few. Long never ending turns on a perfectly groomed Paradise trail will give you a sense of freedom.  The effect of the wide turns on the body, force your arms to rise and try to sore like a bird from edge to edge.

If a steeper slalom in what you want, Dromedary run has a great fall line that keeps you on your toes.  For powder lovers, even after weeks without snow, I was able to find powder stash, after powder stash.

A good eye can spot them best while on the The Knob chair. Find that line and get to work.

Finally, the learning areas for the ski school program are completely isolated from the rest of the main runs and even from themselves, to ensure complete safety for learners of all levels.

There seems to be a perfectly planed guest distribution system that flows all over the mountain.  No wait lines and no congestion.

From the magic carpet, to the very extreme upper chutes and bowls, at Marmot Basin, there is room to…

Three things are for sure.  I will return, I will bring people and I will get my skis tuned here, year after year!  Bravo to the group sales team.
